Just Because: Creative Projects by Bogdan

Chaconne “A bar or so a day” Keeps the Boredom Away

The most epic and fun project I have ever done was recording Bach’s Chaconne, a bar or so a day. Because I sometimes couldn’t do it every day—either because I wasn’t in the right mood or the right location—it took me over three years to record all of the bars. It started as a joke, and I didn’t really plan on doing the whole thing, but my friends loved it and found the funny side of it, so I kept going. After a while, I got so into it and grew so bored of mundane spaces that I bought a couple of green sheets to improvise a green screen so I could insert my “Bach” into movie scenes. That’s when things really slowed down, as I had no idea what I was doing! Editing a single bar would take me days of watching tutorials and using trial and error.

Then, of course, I wanted to put all the bars together to see what the Chaconne would sound like played over three years. Well, that took me another year or more since I lacked the skills and tools, and sometimes simply ran out of time. Below, you will find Playlists 1 and 2 for all the films, as well as the fully reconstructed Chaconne.

“Experiment 1.1” – A short film by Bogdan Vacarescu

This is an experimental short film born out of a simple creative challenge: to see if a striking visual effect could be achieved using nothing more than an apple, a plate, and a few obscure camera filters. To fully capture and match the mood of these abstract visuals, I also composed and produced the original soundtrack.
